Ice Age Trail 50May 14, 2011 - Ice Age Trail 50 Run

The Ice Age Trail 50 is one of America's classic ultra-marathons. Run mostly on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in southern Wisconsin (about a 60 minute drive SW of Milwaukee), the course takes you on a tour of the unique geologic features left by the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. Evergreen and deciduous forests, natural prairies, ponds, marshes and kettles are all part of this diverse and beautiful landscape. The Ice Age Trail 50 is run exclusively on trails, ranging from flat and soft grassy double-track to twisting and technical single-track - and there are enough hills to keep everyone entertained.

Well-marked with plenty of aid stations, Ice Age is the ideal event for first-timers. But it's also a challenging race for experienced ultra-runners. The course record (5:53:21) has been standing for 22 years - and only one age division record has been broken in the last ten years.
